Akenfield Thirtieth Anniversary Events

In November 1974 Akenfield was honoured by being the first British film to be selected to open London Film Festival (18th). To mark that occasion the British Film Institute is screening a new print of the film as part of the Television Festival at the National Film Theatre.

The screening will be followed with an extract from the new BBC4 documentary AKENFIELD Revisited.

Then there will be a Q&A with Sir Peter Hall (producer/director), Ronald Blythe (writer), Rex Pyke (producer/editor), Garrow Shand (Tom in the film) and Peggy Cole (Tom's mother).

TV 2004, National Film Theatre, South Bank, London, Saturday, 20 November 2004, 8:30 pm, NFT1. There will be a private reception for invited guests at NFT between 7:00 and 8:15 before the film.


On Sunday 21st November there will be a Gala Screening of Akenfield and reception in the Ipswich Film Theatre, Ipswich Corn Exchange at 3:00 pm for cast, crew and invited guests. Later, there will be a public screening at 7:00 pm in the same cinema.

BBC4 is screening the new print of Akenfield on Thursday 25th November 2004, with a specially commissioned 40 minute documentary AKENFIELD Revisited (directed & produced by Rex Pyke) about the making of the film and since.

To celebrate the Thirtieth Anniversary of Akenfield, a Limited Addition of 1,000 DVDs are being made, principally for the cast and people associated with the making of the film.

They will cost £15 each and will be available from the Ipswich Corn Exchange Film Theatre after the Gala Screening on Sunday 21st November 2004
